Addressing Critical Issues in Indonesia

Indonesia faces complex, interconnected challenges impacting community well-being, particularly in food security and health. According to UNICEF’s 2024 report, nearly half of Indonesian children under five lack the diverse diet essential for development, contributing to persistently high rates of stunting
(31.8%)
alongside rising obesity.

As a nation vulnerable to climate-induced disasters, Indonesia’s food systems and public health infrastructure face increasing strain. This affects the availability, quality, and affordability of nutritious foods and exacerbates health risks, especially for children and low-income families.

The Global Food Security Index (GFSI) 2022 ranks Indonesia 63rd out of 113 countries. Weaknesses in areas like water management and agricultural research highlight systemic vulnerabilities that require urgent, collaborative action to improve both food security and health outcomes.
